The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is an official EU consultative body. It gives socio-economic stakeholders—such as employers, chambers of commerce, trade unions, farmers, consumer organisations, cooperatives, NGOs, and other civil society representatives—a platform to express their viewpoints. This helps them contribute to the EU’s decision-making process. The core activities of its External Relations Section (REX) include monitoring the EU’s external action and conducting dialogue with civil society in non-EU countries and regions with formal EU ties. The section also prepares EESC opinions on external action, including development, trade, neighbourhood policy, and human rights issues.
